HOST INSTITUTION
Global E³ is an exchange program for engineering students: a student can study abroad while continuing to pay tuition at home. With member universities in 18 countries, students at 50+ universities have the opportunity to study abroad. Global E³ exchanges about 200-250 students a year. Georgia Tech is a member of Global E³ and GT students may apply to go abroad for a semester or academic year to GE³ partner institutions such as Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS.

Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) was established on January 10, 1997 when PETRONAS was invited by the Malaysian government to set up a university.  The campus is built on a 400 hectare (1,000 acre) site strategically located at Bandar Seri Iskandar, Perak Darul Ridzuan, Malaysia. The University is a wholly-owned subsidiary of PETRONAS, the national oil company of Malaysia.

UTP offers a wide range of engineering and technology programs at undergraduate and postgraduate levels complemented with a strong focus on Research and Development. The programs are designed with high industry relevance to provide a dynamic learning environment.  The University community comprises of students and staff from various countries and is
located in a beautifully landscaped setting, amidst the new township of Seri Iskandar. Its peaceful environment, wide open spaces and abundant lakes make these serene surroundings an ideal place to study.

There are 14 cafeterias operating at strategic locations in the campus – i.e. near student villages, the student center, and lecture halls. There are few cafeterias serving western foods. Food prices are being closely monitored by the management and are affordable to the students. Students are not allowed to cook in the hostel rooms. Alternatively, there are pantry areas that can be utilized.
Eligibility
  • Georgia Tech degree-seeking student
  • Good Academic Standing with a 3.0 (or higher) GPA at time of application
  • Undergraduates must have completed at least two full-time semesters of study at GT 
  • At least 18 years of age by the program's departure date
  • Be able to stay at the host university for the duration of their semester, INCLUDING through their exam period
  • Be in Good Standing with the Office of Student Affairs and Housing
  • All Non-U.S. Citizens are welcome to apply to participate in an exchange outside of their home country only. This rule applies to all who do not have a U.S. passport, including U.S. Permanent Residents.
  • All study abroad participants are required to have a passport prior to any visa deadline dates, and any needed visas prior to departure date (Students are responsible for securing all required travel documents per the host country’s regulations prior to departure).

Essential Functions of Study Abroad


OIE is committed to supporting students with disabilities who plan to embark on an international experience. Along with this one of a kind experience comes with the knowledge that there are different cultural viewpoints and legal standards for disabilities throughout the world.
